I was very shocked to read this article in the Times Union. Albany Public Library is abandoning the well-loved Dewey Decimal System for a more user-friendly bookstore arrangement. I wonder if this will become a trend?
I saw this article, and it certainly made me pause to reflect on what this means for school libraries. I wonder, too, what will happen to the Library of Congress system that provides such a shock to the system for so many college students who thought they knew how to navigate a library successfully but found out otherwise. Perhaps we need to consider why people are moving away from Dewey? Can't numbers be connected to subjects? Why would we want to be less specific? Just some of my thoughts...
